Getting your images ready for your site

Why is getting your images important? There are a few reasons, mostly is to create a better user experience by getting the page to load faster. Secondly, Google will rank you better with optimised images.

So how do you optimise images?

1) Setting the Width

Setting the image width will make sure your images are only the size they need. There is no use having a 7,000 pixel wide image embedded in your blog which will only be 500 pixels wide.

Here is how you reduce your pixel width:

On MacOS:

Open the image in Finder > Click Tools from the menu > Adjust Size and set the Width value to 2000 for images in page headings and 500 for images int he middle of pages or in blog posts.

See the Apple website for more details.

On Windows:

Select the picture you want to change > Click Picture Tool Format > Compress Picture > Under Resolution, click Web > Click OK.

See the Windows website for more details.

2) Improving the file size

Resized or not, go to https://tinypng.com, upload your images, once they have been compressed, download them and then add them to your site.

Here is an example of a standard image being reduces from 2.8MB to only 0.4MB.

Tiny URL will not reduce the quality of your image, it removed the colours and data the human eye can't see.
